Rice Crispy Treats All Cleaned Up!

April 27, 2017

Who doesn't love the crispy, chewy goodness of a childhood classic? BUT when I read today's product labels on the three simple ingredients I was appalled! BHT is a chemical preservative in Kellogs Rice Krispies that interferes with hormones. The Kraft brand marshmallows had food dye (can anyone explain why a white product needs blue dye?!). I had to look up one of the ingredients called tetrasodium phosphate. According to www.isitbadforyou.com "Some major health concerns to be aware of regarding tetrasodium pyrophosphate includes its alkaline nature and relatively low lethal human dose. Studies have found that nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are not just possible after consumption but likely. Exposure can also cause skin rashes and visual disturbances." And the last ingredient was artificial flavors. Sweet baby Jesus how is that a treat to give your kids?! I don't want to serve up a side of chemicals with a sweet smile and side of love to my daughter. We set out to do better! Enter the REAL rice crispy treat!

INGREDIENTS:

1 bag of Dandies Vegan Marshmallows, vanilla

5 cups organic brown rice cereal

3 Tbsp Kerry Gold grass-fed butter

2 Tbsp Bulletproof collagen  protein

Melt butter in a large pot on low. Drop in marshmallows and stir and mash gently until smoothie. Remove from stove top. Stir in collagen. Stir in one cup of cereal at a time. Lightly butter the bottom of a glass baking dish and press mix in and smooth out. Let cool. ENJOY!

(Updated May 24 2017 for a second recipe option):

1 bag of Dandies Vegan Marshmallows, vanilla

cups organic brown rice cereal

3 cups puffed rice cereal

2 Tbsp Kerry Gold grass-fed butter

Prepare the same way as above. This version was softer and more chewy with fewer carbohydrates because the puffed rice doesn't have any added sugar that a crisp cereal does, it is only one ingredient. My husband said it reminded him of when he was growing up in the country and they used to get puffed cereal and go out the the honeycombs and scrape honey into the bowl of cereal as their treat.
